Welcome to 2020! It’s a brand new year and Southern Delaware Intergroup (SDI), will begin it with a rotation of two new officers, serving two-year terms. Congratulations to Joyce (chair) and to Kim (alt-chair)! We know you will do some great service.

Here’s some trivia regarding 2020 (MMXX). This is the year of the leap (we will have February 29), the 2020th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 20th year of the 3rd millennium, the 20th year of the 21st century, and the 1st year of the 2020’s decade (pronounced “twenty-twenties”, shortened to “the ’20s”).

It’s also the year Alcoholics Anonymous will hold its International Convention to celebrate A.A.’s 85th anniversary in Detroit, MI (July 2 to 5). We hope you can make it there.

Featured Committee of the Month

Starting this month, the SDI Website Committee will use this section to bring you a brief description of the standing SDI service committees. We hope these will inform and encourage your involvement. It is, after all, our committees where the work required to carry the message is done.

The current website committee was created to develop and oversee the operations of the updated SDI website, which went live on May 19, 2019. With the considerable expertise of our website developer Viv, and the input from volunteers Paul, Joyce, Susie and others, the website has continued to be refined and improved.

And people are using it! In November the site had over 2200 unique visitors and over 100,000 hits. The website can be used to find a local meeting, or special event, or learn about A.A., and, as of October, approved intergroup minutes are posted, which you can view here.

The website meeting data is also synced to A.A.’s Meeting Guide, a free mobile A.A. meeting finder app for iOS and Android.

Currently the website committee is meeting monthly to discuss content revisions and additions, communication received through the site, and the development of policies and procedures for the ongoing maintenance.

New volunteers are most welcome. And no technical expertise is necessary. Just an interest in service and ideas for enriching the content to better carry the message to alcoholics.
