SOUTHERN DELAWARE INTERGROUP NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2025

Highlighted Step/Tradition/Concept for October
Step 10: Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
In our active alcoholism, haven’t we all had countless sleepless nights, ruminating over events of the day, building our righteous anger over wrongdoings committed against us? Back then, did we ever take the time to contemplate our part in disagreements, frustrations, or resentments? Probably not. Driven by indignation we formulated our argument to convince others that there were serious errors in THEIR ways. However, once we put down the drink, start systematically working the steps with a sponsor, and begin practicing these principles in all our affairs, those scenarios become clearer. The “dis-ease” we feel must be addressed objectively for our sobriety and spiritual growth to continue. Reviewing the events of the day, admitting our errors and making amends, creates a path for the promises to unfold. So, at the end of each day, we humbly ask our higher power to show us the truth; to grant us the courage to change what we can, accept what we can’t and the wisdom to know the difference. It is with this daily practice that the serenity in our lives gains momentum. Beth S
Tradition 10 — Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the A.A. name ought never be drawn into public controversy. Never since it began has Alcoholics Anonymous been divided by a major controversial issue. Nor has our Fellowship ever publicly taken side on any question in an embattled world. This, however, has been no earned virtue. It could almost be said that we were born with it, for, as one old timer recently declared. “Practically never have I heard a heated religious, political or reform argument among A.A. members. So long as we don’t argue these matters, privately, it’s a cinch we never shall publicly”. — Reprinted from Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions© (page 179), with permission of A.A. World Services, Inc.
Concept 10 — Every service responsibility should be matched by an equal service authority — the scope of such authority to be always well defined whether by tradition, by resolution, by specific job description, or by appropriate charters and bylaws. All of this is fully implied in A.A.’s Tradition Two. Here we see the “group conscience” as the ultimate authority and the “trusted servant” as the delegated authority. One cannot function without the other. We well know that only by means of careful definitions and mutual respect can we constantly maintain a right and harmonious working balance. — Reprinted from The A.A. Service Manual combined with Twelve Concepts, 2021-2023 Edition (page c36) , with permission of A.A. World Services, Inc.
